ABOUT: My name is Keira, I am a 17 year old senior in highschool. I am the owner of Kisses by Keira and I have been running my business for about 3 years now. My business strives to make products that focus on packaging and aesthetics while still being affordable for teens. MY STORY:
I still remember proposing the idea to start a lip gloss business to my mom in the car on the way to the grocery store. It was the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and I had seen many teens my age starting a business online and was inspired. I did tons of research and figured out what I wanted to sell, my logo, the prices, and the ingredients, and I was excited to share my newest idea. However, as I told my mom my plan, words of doubt came in response. She didn’t think it would be a good idea. It was just going to be a waste of time and money. I understood her concerns and began to question myself as well. But a spark was lit inside of me, and I was determined. I knew if I worked hard enough, I could succeed.
Using $100 I bought my first few ingredients and made only about 20 glosses. The creation process didn’t take long, but the next and most crucial step was where all my efforts went. Advertising. Once my products were created, I spent every day after my online classes creating videos on my Tik Tok page. The first few videos were disappointing and I only received about five likes. However, I kept posting, then finally, after the first few days, one of my videos got 1000 likes and I got my first order. I was so incredibly excited and it just motivated me even more. Every single day I would post 3-5 videos, and I would rarely miss a day. Then my videos just kept blowing up one after another. One would reach 15k likes, and the next would reach 50k until finally, one day, one of my videos reached 3 millions likes.
It was so crazy, my business had blown up, and I went from getting one order to hundreds of orders in just a few hours. This is my story and a message to anyone out there: if you have an idea, push for it and work for it, as you never know what could happen! <3
